(heading for C11922)Along with the Family Dog series of posters, handbills and postcards, Bill Graham promoted a long running series of concerts that produced an astounding array of poster art by many of the greatest of the San Francisco artists including Wes Wilson, Mouse and Kelley, Rick Griffin and Victor Moscoso, with several other artists creating some of the later works in the series. Bill Graham was the first to recognize the significance and collectibility of these historic works of art.
The hardest to accumulate of the three main collections is Family Dog - Avalons -- especially the early east coast handbills. Included are art work by all the greats: Rick Griffin, Mouse & Kelley, Victor Moscoso, Wes Wilson, Lee Conklin, David Singer, and Randy Tutten. This also includes mailers, handbills, variants, and the majority of the full run is represented. The only missing cards are #1, 11, 12, 13, 16, 20 and 97,many of which are common. Otherwise, amazingly complete. Includes one super rare #10 Hayfever, 1st Grateful Dead Avalon with art by Wes Wilson, considered to be the grandfather of psychedleic art. Other rarities: Big Brother #2 , FD#26, signed by Chet Helms, and #27 Howlin Wolf. Several of the hanbills are valued up to $1000 each and even a few thousand. A few common cards are in fair condition; overall average condition. Some early handbills have folds wear, tape, stain, and pinholes (hard to find better).
