The date was May 6, 1982. The place: The Kingdome in Seattle. The Event: Gaylord Perry becoming just the 15th pitcher to win his 300th game. According to the Hall of Fame hurler, he wore several jerseys that night vs. the Yankees, but this is the very one on his back during that final inning when Perry retired Rick Cerone, Larry Milbourne and Willie Randolph in order to reach the milestone. It has been in his possession ever since that day and comes with an LOA from Perry himself. The home M's jersey has "Mariners 36" on the front, "PERRY" sewn on a plate on the back with "36" below, and it is signed on the front: "Gaylord Perry 1982 Game Used." There's a Rawlings Size 46 tag on the front tail with a faint "300" written on it. In addition, there's a Set 1 1982 flag tag. The jersey shows light use with a few stains. Seattle won the game 7-3 and Cerone, the Yankees' catcher, played a huge role in the outcome as his error on a sacrifice bunt in the third inning opened the floodgates for four unearned runs. Perry, who later admitted he had thrown the spitball during his career, finished with 314 wins, 3,534 strikeouts and a 3.11 ERA. He was also the first man to win the Cy Young Award in both leagues.
