While there have been some dry spells, the Syracuse University football team has enjoyed some great success since its formation in the late 1800s. This 10K gold ring commemorates the Orange's 1959 National Championship. It was awarded to lineman Gene Grabosky, who played his lone pro season as part of the Buffalo Bills' inaugural roster in 1960. "Syracuse National Champions 1988" is on the bezel around an orange stone, with Grabosky's name above a Syracuse helmet, and "Won 11, Lost 0" below. The left contains a salute to their Cotton Bowl Championship with the school crest above the score, "Syracuse 23, Texas 14." Spread across both shanks at the very bottom is the non-politically-correct mascot name "Saltine" and "Warrior," which remained in place until the late '70s. Stamped inside by the maker (John Roberts), this great piece is in NRMT condition. 23.0g. Come with original purchase LOA from consignor. Size 11 1/2
