It took only an Onion to bring down one of the most storied athletes of all time. In 1973, a horse named Onion was entered into the Whitney Stakes at New York's Saratoga Park. Over 30,000 fans attended the August 4 race, but most were in attendance to see Triple Crown winner Secretariat. In fact, only three other horses entered the race, but in the end it was Onion pulling the upset for the ages. This Saratoga program from that day is signed on the cover by Braulio Baeza, who did not ride that day, but also on the sheet for the seventh race by Jorge Velasquez, Jacinto Vasquez, and Ron Turcotte, who rode Secretariat in that race. The program in in VG condition with pencil marks throughout, and the autographs in black ink average 7/10.
