An original painting by Ernest Hamlin Baker, this is a gorgeous gouache on heavy artist’s board. Commissioned in 1951, it is most likely for a proposed TIME magazine cover. This major American painter known for hidden imagery and darker, more awesome, aspects of human experience is perhaps best known for the enigmatic "Christina’s Worlds." The piece itself is 11.5" x 12.25" and archivally matted to 16.75" x 17.75" overall. Marked on the verso, "Andrew Wyeth EHB (artist's initials) #302 NP RTE" with old label from exhibition "37 Andrew Wyeth Outstanding American Painter."
