This incredible piece came right off the back of the incomparable Bobby Orr. Worn during the 1972 NHL All-Star Game, his momentous Stanley Cup winning season. To enhance this offering’s rarity, it’s the only exemplar known in the hobby from the 1972 All-Star Game as players smuggled their jerseys out of the Met Center that game. Orr’s jersey was gifted to a family friend who knew Orr since the early 1970’s and comes with letter validating the friendship. Everyone knows that Bobby Orr won eight consecutive Norris Trophies as the NHL’s best defenseman and a Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP this same year. In the 1972 All-Star Game itself, Bobby Orr assisted on Bruins teammate Phil Esposito’s game-winning goal in Bloomington. The beautiful white jersey features two orange twill stars on the chest with the NHL logo embroidered on each star. Orr’s iconic number “4” is sewn on the front in black twill outlined in orange zig-zag stitching. NHL logos are sewn on each shoulder between two orange/black/orange shoulder piping stripes. Number “4” is sewn on both sleeves in black twill outlined in orange stitching. The back displays an original shoulder-to-shoulder length nameplate with “ORR” sewn in orange twill outlined in black zig-zag stitching. Game use consists of light piling near the cuff of each sleeve. Sweat stains are present on the upper back and a few small stick marks are displayed on the left sleeve. A couple of small sweat stains on the front are also of note. Gerry Cosby and size “48” tags are sewn into the back left hem. This jersey is photo-matched to the unique placement and spacing of the chest stars on the front in relation to the neckline. This can be seen in the 1972 NHL All-Star Game team photo and video captures from the game as well. Also, the star on the left chest (Orr's left) is at an odd angle which matches the video reference to a "T." LOA from our hockey expert Casey Samuelson who exhaustively photo-matched the jersey. A pantheon shirt of legendary proportions.
