This magnificent bronze spelter is of the great World Heavyweight Champion James J. Corbett. It was done in the late 19th century, and the fighter is in full boxing pose. He is bare-fisted, wearing boxing shoes and togs of the late 19th century. The magnificent ornately designed base has boxing scenes surrounding the perimeter. It is signed on the base by the German artist Arthur Waagen (1833-1910). This bronze is in magnificent condition and has a beautiful aged patina with no scratches. Measures 27" high, with a base of 7" x 12." Exceptionally rare.
