Many of the 4th of July fireworks in 1923 occurred in the ring as Jack Dempsey outdueled Tommy Gibbons in a 15-round unanimous decision. The fight was put together by Dempsey's clever manager Jack Kearns and nearly bankrupted the town. Remembered as the "Rape Of Shelby." Here's a souvenir Ruby Ware pitcher with "DEMPSEY GIBBONS FIGHT SHELBY, MONT. JULY 4th, 1923" printed on it. There is some scratching but overall rates VG. 4 inches high. Rare, the only we have seen.
