One of the greatest fillies of all time, Rachel Alexandra completed arguably the greatest season ever by a 3-year-old filly in route to winning the 2009 Horse of the Year award. When she won the 2009 Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown, she became the first filly to achieve that feat in 85 years. Overall, Rachel Alexandra captured 13 of 19 starts for over $3.5 million, winning races in six states (KY, LA, AR, MD, NY, NJ) and on eight different tracks. She was successful against fillies and Grade 1 colts as well as older horses, achieving a long string of consecutive wins including numerous Grade 1 stakes. Rachel neared or broke multiple stakes records, track records and winning margin standards throughout her career. This white blanket with pink lettering and trim (how girly!) was presented to - and worn by - Rachel in 2010 during the week of the La Troienne Stakes, as she was honored with the title "First Lady of Oaks" after her monumental 20 1/4 length win in the previous year's Kentucky Oaks (largest margin in the race's storied history). The First Lady of Oaks designation was introduced in 2009 with Susan G. Komen for the Cure founder, Nancy G. Brinker. The official Oaks Day ambassador selection is to honor a special female who has used her professional and personal experiences to celebrate women and the causes that women support.
