As eloquent as he was courageous, Jackie Robinson wrote this thank-you letter to Raymond Treacy in his own hand on hotel stationery from The Chase in St. Louis on June 11, 1956. Treacy - whose letter to sports columnist Jack Lang is also included - had remarked about his love for Jackie as a competitor and how he hopes "to see nine Jackie Robinsons playing at Ebbets field, if they measure up to his standard, and I don't care if they are white, black or yellow." Jackie's original envelope, signed by the civil rights hero in the return address section grades 9 out of 10. Robinson's bold signature at the bottom is also extraordinary. Just a decade earlier, a good chunk of Jackie's mail contained death threats, and now he was receiving compliments such as this, writing that Treacy's letter was the most complimentary one he had ever seen: "If nothing more comes from baseball, I will always remember (your letter) and whenever I receive letters that are not right I'll always remember yours. It's gestures like that that make us in baseball feel like we have accomplished something and I am sure it's a feeling I will always remember." The stationery has a few tape marks in the margin but is in EX condition. Comes with full JSA LOA (letter only).
