This lot includes some spectacular material related to Babe Ruth's Swan Song. An October 5, 1919, barnstorming game starred Babe Ruth and his Boston Red Sox. Ruth commanded top billing in a challenge match in Rutland, Utah, versus the local talent. Incredibly, two days prior he had torn up his Sox contract, defying Harry Frazee and prompting his defection to create the modern juggernaut Yankees. Ruth hit a double and pounded a homer, the likes of which had never been seen, his last homer in a Red Sox uniform. The lot features a series of telegrams back and forth including Ed Barrow, Retlad and one from Walter Johnson. In addition are two large format 7x5" egg albumen photos of the match and two real photo postcards with 1919 backs showing the stands filled with Ruth fans galore.
