John Edward Kelly (December 15, 1862 – November 1, 1895) was an Irish-born champion boxer, better known as Jack "Nonpareil" Dempsey. He was nicknamed "Nonpareil" because of his reputation of being unbeatable. Dempsey won his first 65 fights and was Middleweight Champion until being defeated by Robert Fitzsimmons. Dempsey died very young from tuberculosis. Offered here is a rare, original cabinet card of "The Nonpareil" picturing him as he looked at the height of his career. A Richard K. Fox cabinet with a bold, clear image. No creasing. Minor spotting. 4.25x6.25" framed to 14x17." An early gem from the late 19th century.
