On Sunday, December 29, 1935, in Havana, Cuba, rising heavyweight and future champion Joe Louis was scheduled to meet tough Isidore Gastanaga of Spain. The fight was cancelled by Joe Louis' manager, John Roxborough, for what he called political unrest on the island of Cuba. Perhaps Roxborough's further statement was more indicative of the real reason as he noted "all reports indicate that the bout wouldn't draw enough interest to meet expenses."
