This letter is to a player from Miami University of Ohio from his cousin and reads: "Base Ball is as popular among the students as ever. I suppose it seems to be here. The club have been practicing out at the fairground everyday for the festival which takes place next week. I do not know whether they expect to play a match game with any other club or not." Accompanying letters were dated 1866 and this is postmarked June 2 with no year. It mentions a "procession of (Civil War) soldiers is to be formed which headed by the band is to march to the cemetery and different graveyards scattering flowers on the soldiers' graves." We believe this to be one of the first Decoration Days, now known as Memorial Day, in remembrance of the fallen Civil War soldiers. EX condition four-page letter with original envelope.
