Imagine a pitcher throwing 12 perfect innings and losing the game. That was the cruel fate that befell Harvey Haddix of the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 26, 1959. The left-hander that day authored what many regard as the best-pitched game in baseball history as he retired the first 36 batters he faced before succumbing to a Milwaukee Braves rally that was sparked by a fielding error, ruining the gem. The 14k medal offered here was presented to Haddix for his bittersweet accomplishment. It indicates the winning and losing pitchers (Lew Berdette matched Haddix zero-for-zero, although he allowed 12 hits), the date and the score. The reverse is smooth. A tremendous memento from a historic game!
