Here's a very rare contract from 1949 stipulates that 19-year-old rookie Melvin Duncan will be paid $300 a month for playing for the Kansas City Monarchs, the longest-running Negro League franchise of all-time (1920-65). It is signed by Duncan, a witness and T.Y. Baird, the team president. There is separation of the paper at the folds on the second page but the overall document is in EX condition. A Michigan native, Duncan pitched a no-hitter for the Monarchs during the 1950 season.
