But George Gipp's legacy may ultimately be his famous deathbed words to legendary coach Knute Rockne, imploring his team to "win just one for the Gipper." The inspired Irish went on to a 12-6 victory over undefeated Army in 1928 as Gipp succumbed to a streptococcal throat infection.
