On September 8, 1985, Pete Rose tied Ty Cobb's longstanding hits record as his Reds played the Cubs in Chicago. In the fifth inning of that game (which would ultimately end tied due to darkness in the pre-lights era at Wrigley Field), Rose would single for that 4,191st hit, then score on a home run by Buddy Bell. This official National League (Feeney) Ball features a mighty scuff from where it was struck. The ball was purchased directly from the lucky fan who caught it in the bleachers that afternoon. A 1985 Topps Buddy Bell card makes up part of the display, and the following is printed on the base: "BUDDY BELL HOME RUN 9/8/85 DROVE IN PETE ROSE AFTER HIT 4191 TO TIE TY COBB." We sold this ball all the way back in 1997, but it's back on the block waiting for your bid.
