Sugar Ray Robinson (Walker Smith, Jr.) became a professional fighter on October 4, 1940. He defeated Tommy Bell on December 20, 1946 to win the World Welterweight Title, then defeated Jake LaMotta on February 14, 1951 to win the World Middleweight Title. He would win that crown on four additional occasions. In a career which ran until 1965, he would claim victories over Fullmer, Basilio, Gavilan, Olson, Graziano, Armstrong and Turpin. Offered here is the original New York Manager's Guild Award given to Robinson in 1952, largely due to his accomplishments the previous year when he beat LaMotta. 11" x 13" metal on wood award. Some surface scratches and edge wear. One of the more significant Robinson awards to come to market. Hamilton LOA.
