This beautiful and rare black cotton jacket belonged to Left-handed pitcher Archie McKain when he toed the rubber for the Detroit Tigers between 1939 and 1941. Its sleeves are black leather, while the material comprising the collar, cuffs and waist are white and orange cloth. The Tigers' large Olde English "D" highlights the left breast and the player number 28 adorns the base of the left sleeve. There is significant wear, including small holes. McKain, who was a switch-hitter, played six seasons in the majors, having debuted with the Boston Red Sox in 1937. He compiled a 13-7 record in his 74 games with Detroit. In 1940, McKain's middle season with the Tigers, his team won the American League pennant. Despite the age-attributed flaws, this is a magnificent piece of baseball history. Includes LOA.
