Few names in its lengthy history are as synonymous with thoroughbred horse racing as Jorge Velasquez. Upon his retirement from the sport in 1997, the award-winning jockey had ridden to an astounding 6,795 victories. That total is not races - it's victories. He was also a key figure in one of racing's most legendary rivalries. In 1978, when Affirmed won horse racing's Triple Crown (the last horse to do it), Alydar - ridden by Hall of Famer Velasquez - placed second in all three races. Three years later, the native of Panama rode Pleasant Colony to victory in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. There exist very little, if any, race worn items associated with Alydar; certainly none of this magnitude. This is a rare opportunity to ride as tall in the saddle as Velasquez did and own a piece of "The Sport of Kings," as we're proud to offer the very saddle he used in several of those races, autographed and marked with the name of each race.
