Hideki Tojo, the mastermind of the Pearl Harbor attacks, served as General of the Imperial Japanese Army and as the 40th Prime Minister of Japan during WWII. Following the Japanese surrender in 1945, Tojo was to be charged as a war criminal. As depicted in this photo, Tojo attempted suicide before he could be captured, but his self-afflicted gun shot wound missed his heart. He survived, and was convicted on seven counts of war crimes.
