Chandler letterhead reads, "I allowed Jackie Robinson to play baseball in the Major Leagues because it was the right thing to do. (signed) Albert B. Chandler." Appling was a pesky leadoff hitter who batted over .300 for nine straight seasons and played in seven All-Star Games.
