Former baseball commissioner Happy Chandler and White Sox shortstop Luke Appling are enshrined in Cooperstown, and these signed baseballs are NRMT, with single signatures on the sweet spots of the Official American League (Brown). Chandler, who served his native Kentucky as both senator and governor, was instrumental in the breaking of baseball's color barrier. An enclosed typed letter on NRMT Albert B. Chandler letterhead reads, "I allowed Jackie Robinson to play baseball in the Major Leagues because it was the right thing to do. (signed) Albert B. Chandler." Appling was a pesky leadoff hitter who batted over .300 for nine straight seasons and played in seven All-Star Games.
