One of the most desired of all the cardboard advertising signs, this Vintage cardboard ad poster from 1947-48 will bring a smile to the face of anyone old enough to remember the Golden Age of baseball (and smoking, for that matter). This one arraying the photographic images of some of the biggest baseball heroes of the era with superb captions - Ted Williams, MVP Joe DiMaggio, Stan Musial, Ewell Blackwell, MVP Bob Elliott and Yankees manager Bucky Harris - is perhaps the definitive advertising poster. This beauty is an original that immediately points out the wide cultural gulf between then and now, with cigarettes stuck in the smiling mouths of Musial, DiMaggio and Elliott, and a Chesterfield pack held aloft by "The Splinter." Below, under a huge Chesterfield pack, is the ad's theme: "The Baseball Man's Cigarette." Today, of course, such a theme would be deemed taboo, forcing players to take their puffs only while out of sight in the clubhouse and out of uniform. Remember, Keith Hernandez lost Elaine because of his smoking habit. The red and green splashed ad has gorgeous colors. There's some creasing and minor wear, and it measures about 20" x 20".
