For much of Baseball's early history, wearing a glove was considered "unmanly", and would often result in ridicule from both fans and opposing players. Rule changes in 1880s changed that perception, as the introduction of overhand pitching resulted in massively increased velocity from pitchers, and players started wearing gloves out of necessity. One of those players was a fine gentleman by the name of Albert Spalding, who played for the Boston Red Stockings and Chicago White Stockings before retiring and starting his own sporting goods store. Spalding would soon team up with Alfred James Reach and began producing high-quality baseball gloves. This is one of those early gloves; a Spalding crescent model fingered glove in good condition.
