Christy Mathewson's signature is one of the rarest around, but this 1925 Adirondack National Bank personal check is signed by the elusive Hall of Fame pitcher in gorgeous 8/10 black fountain ink at the lower right. His name is also printed vertically on the left hand side. The check itself has been filled out in its entirety by Mathewson and was for $250, but was canceled with punch holes (none of which touch his signature). The check has been trimmed but no print is affected. A slight stain on the front appears to be glue and a piece of heavy stock paper has been affixed to the lower back portion of the check. Mathewson recorded a legendary career, posting unbelievable stats such as a 2.13 lifetime ERA, a Win-Loss record of 373-188, and 2,502 strikeouts.
