On January 1, 1929, Cal faced Georgia Tech in Pasadena, California. Midway through the second quarter, Roy Riegels picked up a fumble by Tech's Jack "Stumpy" Thomason. Just 30 yards away from the Yellow Jackets' end zone, Riegels was somehow turned around and ran 65 yards in the wrong direction for a safety. This rare original wire photo shows Riegels being consoled by his teammates after his gaffe. A purple stamp of when the photo was completed (July 9, 1929) is on the back and the photo comes with a description of the famous play.
