This white Minneapolis Lakers uniform dates from the1959-60 basketball season and was worn by forward Dwayne "D.L." Smith, a 13th-round draft pick from Gustavus Adolphus College. Although it appears that Smith did not make the final team for 1959-60, the final season that the Lakers played in Minneapolis, this is a game-worn uniform with number 23 on both the front and back and a Wilson label and size 42 flag tag sewn on the front left tail. The self-belted button-fly shorts have number 23 on the right leg and a Wilson label with a size 34 flag tag inside the front waistband. The uniform was consigned by a family member of Dwayne Smith, and comes with some newspaper articles that mention him practicing with Elgin Baylor in Texas. An interesting item from a very different era in basketball.
