Nicholas Ray's directorial contact for the film Rebel Without A Cause (1955) starring James Dean. Elaborate twenty-four page document is housed in a brown cardboard file folder with the film's title on front. The following are present inside: main contract signed by Ray and the Warner Brothers legal representative Augusta Weisberg, signed story agreement for Rebel which was originally entitled The Blind Run, 1978 "stills" clearance with xeroxes of much of the movie materials picturing James Dean, 1960 copyright agreement, 1974 documentary film agreement on the life of Nicholas Ray, and additional 1960 cover letter regarding Rebel. Because of its huge com-mercial (and critical) success, these further agreements and documentation became necessary. A seminal per-formance by James Dean helped turn this into a film that changed the way in which movies were made. This was much in the same way that Intolerance did years before and Easy Rider would years after.
