This historically significant photograph was taken by noted New York City photographer George Rockwood. It shows the New York City Board of Rapid Transit Commissioners (Subway Commission) gathered around a boardroom table signing a contract, most likely to provide or expand subway service in part of the city. A label on the matting below the photograph contains some of the wording of the contract, along with facsimile signatures of the key signers including Mayor Robert A. Van Wyck. The photo is dated 1900, measures 13 x 16" and is framed to 22 1/2 x 25".
