On September 23, 1957 at Yankee Stadium in New York Carmen Basilio challenged Sugar Ray Robinson for the World Middleweight Title held by Sugar Ray. Basilio won a hard fought 15 round split decision and the championship. The fight was named “Fight Of The Year” by the Ring (Magazine). Offered here are the fight worn gloves used by Carmen Basilio in this fight. The gloves are leather with an Everlast manufacturer’s label at each wrist. On the backhand of each glove in silver pen the gloves have been signed and inscribed by Carmen Basilio, Carmen Basilio Fight Used Glove vs. Sugar Ray Robinson Sept. 23, 1957. On the inside wrist of each glove there is a stamp from the New York State Athletic Commission. Adjacent to the stamp Basilio has added the date of the fight. The gloves are also initialed C.B. and have initials of the commission inspector. The gloves are in excellent condition. These gloves come with a notarized letter of authenticity from carmen Basilio. They also come with a LOA from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc. who purchased the gloves from Carmen Basilio.
