Goose Tatum played Negro League Baseball becoming a star basketball player with the Harlem Globetrotters. He is considered to be the original "clown prince" of the Trotters. He wove numerous comic routines into his play, of which many would reach cult status. Some of these routines were based on his stature - it is reported that he had an arm span of about 84'' and could touch his kneecaps without bending. This postcard dates from his days in the Negro Baseball League when he played for the Indianapolis Clowns, a team known for their wild antics, during the late 1940’s. The quality of the 3 ½ x 5 ½” postcard is EX with some minor wrinkling, sharp tonal contrast and clean edges. “Goose” Tatum was one of the earliest athletes to cross the bridge between two professional sports and any memorabilia featuring his image is highly sought after. On the back of the postcard is information about how fans can order glossy 8 x 10" photographs of the Negro League's fames "Showmen" and "Baseball Wizards."
