This rare early 20th century plaster composition sculpture is titled "The American Idol" as stated on a gold plaque affixed to the base. Dated 1909 and signed by the artist it is 12'' tall and 11'' square at the base. There is some evidence of restoration work, including the finish coating which is designed to make the statue appear to be made of bronze. The quality of the craftsmanship is excellent with incredible details like the fabrics folds and the football player's facial features. Otherwise the sculpture is in EX condition devoid of surface nicks or scratches. This piece is an ideal marriage between art and sports memorabilia making it a treasure for any high end collection.
