This exquisite image of Larry Holmes and Gerry Cooney was last sold for over $14,000. This painting commemorates arguably the best fight in the storied career of Boxing Hall Of Fame Inductee (2008) Larry Holmes. Holmes was at the peak of his career and despite a vicious challenge from the younger Cooney Holmes was able to dominate much of the action before stopping Cooney. The original oil painting is classic LeRoy Neiman style with his vibrant and bold use of color and the almost impressionist rendering of both prizefighters, which categorizes this painting as truly fine art. The painting measures 21" x 24" and is framed to an overall size of 27" x 30". The painting is signed in red by Neiman on the bottom center and the quality is undeniably MINT. The lot also includes a poster made from this original painting that is signed by Neiman and inscribed “To Brian.” The quality of the poster is NRMT, measures 21" x 27" and dates to March 15, 1982, as does the painting. This is a remarkable piece of sports fine art and would make an outstanding addition to any collection.
