Interesting series of news photos (27), mostly 7" x 9 1/4", relating to the Mexican Baseball League during the 1940's. The president of the Mexican League Jorge Pasquel "raided" the American Major Leagues luring players with big money contracts. This started in 1938 with Satchel Paige and soon followed in the 1940's with more players including many Negro Leaguers. Players who made the move included Josh Gibson, Ray Dandridge, Monte Irvin, Sal Maglie, Mickey Owen, Ray Dandridge, Willie Wells, Cool Papa Bell, Martin Dihigo, Leon Day, Ramon Bragana, Angel Castro, Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe and Lou Klein. Pasquel and the Mexican Baseball League pushed baseball toward racial integration. One great photo is of Hall of Famer Ray Dandridge. Also pictured are Adams, Klein, Owen, and more. These players were banned from The Major Leagues, but were later reinstated. Great collection.
