This historic International News wire photo is of British Premier Winston Churchill and United States Ambassador to Britain Joseph P. Kennedy. Photo is 6 5/8" x 8 1/2" and is in VG-EX condition with some creases and a 1/4" chip on the lower right corner. It was shot in front of No. 10 Downing Street in London on October 23, 1940. This was after France had been occupied by Germany and Britain was beginning to be the target of air raids from the German air force. Churchill was courting the U.S. to join it in battling Germany. Kennedy, the father of future President of the United States John F. Kennedy, was vehemently opposed to the U.S. going to war, thus making for tense relations between the two men. Kennedy would resign his position as ambassador to Britain one month after this photo was taken.
