Official program book for the September 22, 1927 rematch between Champion Gene Tunney and challenger Jack Dempsey known as the "Battle of the Long Count.". This heavy weight battle took place at Chicago's Soldier Field, billed as the largst stadium in the world at the time. Attendance was estimated at 104,000. Program book is 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" and 52 pages including cover. It is in VG-EX overall with some scuffing and creases on the cover and spine. The cover has a 2" tear on the top back right side and a 1/8"chip in the upper right corner. In the seventh round, Dempsey unleashed a flury of punches knocking the Champ into the ropes where he went down. Dempsey stood over Tunney and ignored the referee's request for him to go to his corner and so the ref delayed his count. It is estimated Tunney was down for 13-17 seconds instead of the allotted ten. Thus the "Battle of the Long Count" Tunney stood up as the ref reached a count of nine. He then went on to dominate the rest of the fight and retain his title via unanimous decision.
