Official program book for the scheduled June 18, 1936 fight between Max Schmeling and Joe Louis. The actual fight took place on the 19th due to a rain out. This fight was billed not only as a battle of heavyweight fighters, but also a political battle of two heavyweight nations and ideologies. Program book is 8 1/2" x 11" and 24 pages including cover. It is in VG overall with some tears and scuffing on the spine and cover. Bottom staple is separated from text pages. Some writing in pencil on an inside page. The fight took place at a capacity filled Yankee Stadium. Schmeling went on to defeat Louis by knockout in the 12th round. This was the first of two bouts between the two fighters. Louis won the rematch in 1938 by KO in the first round.
