Great collection of photos (163) spanning the life and career of tennis star Don Budge. Budge was the first man to win in a single year Wimbledon, The U.S., Australian and French tournaments a.k.a. the "Grand Slam" of tennis. Budge was considered to have one of the best backhands in the history of the game. Vintage photos include Budge talking with famed NY Giants QB Y.A. Tittle in 1963, another of Budge posing with the 1938 Davis Cup Championship Trophy and teammmates Gene Mako, Joseph Hunt, Captain Walter Pate, Joseph Hunt and Robert Riggs. Also in the collection is a historic shot of Budge with then 23 year old Jimmie McDaniel, the 1940 "Negro amateur champion" after Budge and McDaniel had concluded an unprecedented exhibition in Harlem, NY. This was the first interracial match helping to break the color barrier in tennis. Photos range in size from 5" x 7" to 8" x 14" with most 8" x 10". Photos are in a range from VG to MT condition.
