Rare turn-of-the-century baseball doll dressed in period uniform, complete with removable cap. Offering tremendous crossover appear to both baseball and doll collectors, this attractive example is characterized by its impeccable condition. The doll features a composition head and arms. The body and legs are constructed of cloth and appear to be stuffed with wood chips. While no manufacturer is listed, doll collectors will quickly note that the facial features are extremely similar to the popular schoenhut dolls of the era. The hands are slightly soiled, but the head and all of the painted features remain in near pristine condition. The original cloth outfit bears no specific team affiliation and is heavily worn, displaying a number of minor tears. We have a seen very few early baseball dolls of this high-quality style of manufacture. This is truly an exceptional example.
