There were two Mickey Mantle Days at the Stadium. The first in 1969 featured the retirement of his number 7 and Joe DiMaggio giving the Mick his plaque to be placed next to his own in the old Yankee Stadium. The second Mickey Mantle day was August 25, 1996 in the renovated Yankee Stadium. The Mick's new monument was unveiled on that occasion in Monument Park behind the centerfield fence. These pins were to be worn on the players’ hats that day but were deemed unsafe because of the post on the back side and were ultimately not worn. These are rare and this is only the second one Lelands has handled.
