He also was part of the first all-black American League battery in 1952. While playing for the San Francisco Giants during the 1959 campaign, Jones had a league and career-best season winning 21 games while logging a stingy 2.83 ERA. He also pitched the first game ever played at Candlestick Park, San Francisco, on April 6, 1960; a 3-1 win over St. Louis, giving up only 3-hits. The same year, on September 26, 1959, Jones pitched his 2nd no-hitter to beat St. Louis, 4-0.
