James J. Jeffries won the World Heavyweight Championship from Robert
Fitzsimmons in 1899. He successfully defended the title against James
Corbett, Tom Sharkey and Jack Munroe before retiring undefeated. He
came out of retirement in 1910 to challenge Jack Johnson for the
heavyweight title, but was stopped in one of the most celebrated
fights of all time. Presented here is a scarce signed photograph of
James Jeffries. This is an 8” x 10”, second generation photograph of
Jeffries in full fight pose. He has boldly signed this in fountain
pen. Signed later in life. This comes from the collection of
prizefighter Lefty Jorgenson. Signed photographs of Jeffries in fight
pose are rare. Excellent condition.
