Navy defeated Penn by a score of 6 to 0 in their 1928 gridiron match-up. This trophy football is a relic of that game with the winning details spelled out in EX-MT gold paint on a blue background. It reads, “Navy 6 - U. Penn. 0 Oct. 27, 1928 Franklin Field”. The panel opposite the inscription has faint writing that says, “Fullback Joe Canton”. The former owner contacted Navy Archivists about the ball, which comes with its original, black lacquered base, inscribed to a Mrs. Robison. The Navy had no information about the woman, except that Rear Admiral Samuel S. Robison was Superintendent of the Naval Academy at that time. That response letter from the Department of the Navy is included with the trophy ball.
