Vintage leather catcher’s mitt worn by Hall of Famer Bill Dickey. The glove originates from the family of Umpire Cal Hubbard and comes with a detailed letter explaining that it was given as a gift from Dickey to Hubbard’s children in the winter of 1945. Dickey explained to the children that in order to lessen the sting of a pitched ball, he would place a sponge inside of the glove over his palm. All of the mfg markings and model numbers have faded from use. Shows very heavy use with a broken lace in the webbing and a tear along the forefinger. LOA from Cal Hubbard family.
