Here are (17) remarkable editions of a rare sporting magazine entitled "The Illustrated Day's Doings and Sporting World" published in the 1880's. We have not seen this publication before and they are in very good condition. The magazine has incredible boxing content and artwork including great foldouts. The gem here is certainly the January 9, 1888 edition proclaiming Jake Kilrain as Champion of the World. The center foldout has a jumbo illustration depicting his 106 rounds against Jem Smith in France. The 16 page issue is chock full of nothing but fight coverage. Coverage of other sensational events (riots in Birmingham, mad dog terrorizes in Philly, flogging of female prison inmates) abound in other issues, but boxing is a favorite topic. The October 1888 issue has illustrations covering women boxing in Buffalo and the "colored" heavy weight championship between Professor Graves and Tom King. The arrival of Brit boxer Charley Mitchell gets back page coverage in November1888. December 1887 has a great foldout illustration portraying Kilrain's preparations for his bout against Smith. This collection is full of amazing material amounting to hours of fascinating reading.
