Elston Howard joined the Yankees in 1956, the first black player on the team and was named MVP in 1963. He won a Gold Glove award in 1963 and 1964 and it is quite possible he was wearing this glove during one of those seasons. Classic, Spalding personal model catcher's mitt game used by the first African American on the Yankees roster, Elston Howard. It is a spoke web, Yogi Berra model, but the model number has been obscured. (It ends with 07 32 and can be found in faded marker on the wrist band.) Also written on the glove, "Howard 32" on the thumb and "Ellis" on the pinky in faded marker. Spalding tag is quite worn. Fantastic relic representing one of baseball's pioneers across the color barrier.
