Brian “Spinner” Spencer led a turbulent life on and off the ice. He
achieved his lifelong goal of playing in the National Hockey League,
but his life was cut short in 1988 after running into rough times
with drugs and violence. Spencer’s NHL career concluded in the Steel
City with the Penguins in 1978-79. This home, white Stall & Dean
jersey features the manufacturer’s tagging in the collar with a
washing instructions tag sewn below, and size 48 and “8” year fly
tags sewn at the bottom. Light use evident throughout as Spencer
played in just seven games in 1978-79. One un-repaired hole on the
bottom blue hem stripe. Three un-repaired holes to the right of the
crest. Broken stitching at the left sleeve cuff. A couple marks on
the crest. All sleeve numbers and the crest have puckered slightly
from multiple washings. Crest remains in fantastic condition as
others from 1978-79 frayed heavily and required heavy repair work at
the borders of each tackle twill layer. Three light board burns on
the back of the right elbow. Long board burn/scrape on the back right
hem in the bottom stripe. Back numbers show puckering and feeling of
solidified glue under the numbers. Shoulder-to-shoulder length
nameplate with name sewn on plate in navy blue. All original.
Fantastic vintage Penguins jersey.
