On February 21, 1896 future heavyweight champion Robert Fitzsimmons fought Peter Maher near Langtry, Texas in one of the most notable fights in western history. Fitzsimmons stopped Maher in the very first round. The fight was billed as for the World Heavyweight Title, although Jim Corbett remained the recognizable champion. Richard K. Fox of the Police Gazette recognized the importance of this fight and issued a large color supplement to commemorate it. That color supplement poster is offered here. It pictures both fighters in a square-off pose atop the famed Police Gazette Championship Belt. The poster is paper and measures 17 x 22. It retains its original color. Has the original folds. Slight edge and corner wear. Overall excellent condition. Professionally framed. Seldom seen especially in this condition.
