One of the most feared defensemen in the Original Six of the NHL,
Pete, as he was commonly referred to by his teammates and friends,
quickly proved that despite his size he would be a force in the
National Hockey League. Pilote’s reputation as a tough guy who should
be respected was solidified after knocking out Henri and Maurice
Richard in the same mix-up against the Canadiens. From the beginning
of the 1956-57 season until the 1961-62 season, Pilote played in an
astonishing 376 consecutive games for the Hawks. Inducted into the
Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975, Pilote also served as Captain in the
Windy City beginning in the 1961-62 season as he led Bobby Hull and
Stan Mikita in old Chicago Stadium. This fantastic offering comes
directly from Pierre Pilote himself and is accompanied by an LOA
signed by the rugged defenseman. The beautiful Black Hawks crest is
sewn high up on the chest of this wool jersey with very faint
evidence of it being moved slightly at some point by the team. This
road, white jersey also features the traditional tomahawks on each
arm, however, this style can be pinpointed to the 1958-59 season due
to the #3 on each sleeve being sewn above the tomahawks on the
sleeves. Sammy Frager Boxing Gloves Etc. – Midwest Gym – Chicago tag
in the lower front right hemline. A size 48 tag is sewn adjacent to
the Frager tag in the hem. One team repair appears on the upper back
neck area. Pilling is also evident on the inside and the lower back
hem from Pilote’s hockey pants. An extremely rare style and one of
the greatest jerseys ever designed. Fantastic!
